South African Poker Players strike it rich in Vegas!

‘King’ Kramer and South African-born lawyer, Eric
Hershler have hit the international Poker circuit
with a bang by winning tournaments in Vegas and earning
the respect of top international poker stars!
Eric Hershler is smiling all the way to the bank with
his winnings of $2,429,970 (R17.8 million) for taking
first place at the World Poker Tour (WPT) event, in the
US at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. Eric gave
himself a zero percent chance of winning the tournament
since it was his first poker tournament, but said his
goal was simply to have a great experience. He paid
$10,000 to enter the 2007 LA Poker Classic, which
started with 791 players, the biggest $10,000 buy-in
field the history of the WPT. His gamble paid off.
Darren ‘King’ Kramer, one of South Africa’s top poker
professionals, took home over R160 000 after winning a
$1000 buy-in event at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Kingkramer was over in the US to meet up with long time
family friend Eric Hershler, who became the first South
African to win a WPT title 4 weeks ago, and decided to
enter the event after a successful 3 days tearing up the
cash game tables and playing with the likes of Steve
Martin and Martin Lawrence.
With good friend Dan Marcus providing him with ample
support Kingkramer outlasted and outplayed a strong
field of 78 players and taking home the winners cheque
of $24 000.
Kingkramer has become one of the most recognized players
in South Africa and has been featured in GQ magazine as
well as currently being the exclusive playing editor for
the Citizen newspaper and www.poker247.co.za
Kingkramer will be one of the local hosts of the
upcoming South African Poker Open being staged at
Montecasino from the 11-13 May 2007 and will be doing
live reports direct from the cardroom floor on Jacaranda
Radio during the entire South African Poker Open which
shuffles up and deals at 2pm on Friday the 11th May.
